Living in Aventura

Aventura was incorporated in 1995 and takes its name from the development Don Soffer began in the 1970s on the west bank of the Intracoastal Waterway, with Turnberry Isle at its centre. It is a city of high-rise condominiums, gated townhome communities and very few detached houses, with Hallandale Beach across the Broward County line to the north, Golden Beach and Sunny Isles Beach across the water to the east, and North Miami Beach to the south. Biscayne Boulevard runs through the middle. Aventura Mall and the Brightline station beside it, Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, Founders Park, the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and the city's two charter schools are all inside the city, and the William Lehman Causeway crosses to the beaches.

The Intracoastal, Marinas and Boating

Aventura has no beach of its own; its water is the Intracoastal Waterway, Dumfoundling Bay and the lakes and canals that reach in from them. The towers of Williams Island, Porto Vita, the Point, Island Estates, Aventura Marina and Mystic Pointe line the Intracoastal, and many upper-floor residences look across it to the ocean and the Sunny Isles Beach skyline.
