Living in Lake Worth Beach
Lake Worth Beach was incorporated as Lake Worth in 1913 and took its current name after a vote of its residents in 2019. The city sits on the west shore of the Lake Worth Lagoon between West Palm Beach to the north and Lantana to the south. Its downtown runs along Lake Avenue and Lucerne Avenue, a one-way pair lined with restaurants, galleries, shops and the Lake Worth Playhouse. East of downtown, the Lake Avenue bridge crosses the lagoon to the city's municipal beach, where the Casino building, with its restaurants, and the William O. Lockhart fishing pier sit on the barrier island. The city runs its own electric utility and a municipal golf course on the lagoon, and I-95, Palm Beach International Airport and downtown West Palm Beach are a short drive away.
Historic Districts and Cottages
Much of Lake Worth Beach east of I-95 was built between the 1920s and the 1950s, and the city protects its character through local historic districts: College Park, Northeast Lucerne, Old Lucerne, Old Town, South Palm Park and Southeast Lucerne. Their streets hold wood-frame cottages, Mission and Spanish Revival bungalows, mid-century ranch homes and small courtyard apartment buildings, often on narrow lots with a second cottage or garage apartment behind the main house. Exterior work on a home in a local historic district, from windows and doors to additions and demolition, goes through the city's historic preservation review, so we confirm a property's status before you plan a renovation. Check the roof, the wiring, the plumbing and the sewer line, the flood zone, and whether any rear unit was permitted.
The Lagoon, the Beach and Waterfront Homes
Waterfront in Lake Worth Beach mostly means the Lake Worth Lagoon. Lakeside Drive follows the shore north and south of the Lake Avenue bridge, and homes along it and in College Park look east across the water toward the south end of Palm Beach; a small number sit directly on the lagoon with docks and seawalls, several of them newer estate homes, and 1970s and 1980s condominium buildings on South Lakeside Drive face the water. The Snook Islands Natural Area, a restored mangrove habitat in the lagoon beside the city golf course, has a boardwalk and a kayak launch. Boaters reach the ocean through the Lake Worth Inlet to the north or the Boynton Inlet to the south, and water depth, seawall condition and the route to the inlet vary lot by lot, so we check them for every waterfront home we show. West of I-95, condominiums along Lake Osborne Drive look over Lake Osborne and John Prince Park.
Condos, Townhomes and 55-Plus Communities
Condominiums in Lake Worth Beach come in three kinds. Downtown, buildings from the 2000s such as Lake Avenue Lofts and the Lucerne put owners above Lake and Lucerne Avenues within walking distance of the bridge to the beach, and a boutique building on Lake Avenue was completed in 2023. Across the older parts of the city, garden and low-rise buildings from the 1960s to the 1980s, many on South Lakeside Drive and Federal Highway, are the most attainable way to own close to the lagoon. West of I-95, the 55-and-over communities of Murry Hills, Lakeside Point and Lake Clarke Gardens offer pools and clubhouses near Lake Osborne. Townhomes from the mid-2000s, such as Pineapple Village and the Cloisters on Federal Highway, add garages and private outdoor space. For any condominium, ask for the reserve study, the milestone inspection for buildings three stories and taller, any pending assessment, and the age, approval and leasing rules.
Neighborhoods
Lake Worth Beach is small enough that buyers think in terms of east and west of I-95. East of it, the Original Townsite, the grid of lettered streets and numbered avenues on the Town of Lake Worth plat, holds downtown, Parrot Cove along North Lakeside Drive, the streets around Bryant Park, and cottages, duplexes and small apartment buildings on almost every block, while College Park at the north end adds historic homes on larger lots and a few lagoon-front estates. West of I-95, Murry Hills sits on the shore of Lake Osborne and Lake Clarke Gardens lies farther north, both 55-plus condominium communities. A Lake Worth Beach mailing address can also lie outside the city limits, so check the municipality on the tax record. Each neighbourhood page carries its live listings and recent sales, and the price, lifestyle and property-type pages below cut the whole city the way buyers search it.
Selling a Home in Lake Worth Beach
A Lake Worth Beach home is priced block by block. A restored 1920s cottage near downtown, a duplex with two rented units, a College Park home near the lagoon and a 55-plus condo on Lake Osborne each draw a different buyer and have their own comparable sales, and those buyers are also looking in West Palm Beach, Lantana and Boynton Beach. Historic character, a permitted guest cottage, the age of the roof, impact windows and the flood zone all move the price. Start with a free valuation built on recent MLS sales, ask for a full comparative market analysis before you list, or request a guaranteed cash offer if you need a fast, as-is sale.
Investing in Lake Worth Beach
Investors come to Lake Worth Beach for small income properties. Duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes from the 1920s to the 1970s are spread through the older grid east of I-95, and many single-family lots carry a second cottage or garage apartment. Tenants include year-round renters who work in West Palm Beach and across central Palm Beach County, and winter visitors who want to be near the beach and downtown. Before you offer, ask for the rent roll and the leases, confirm that every unit is permitted under the city's zoning, find out what the city requires to register a rental and whether short-term stays are allowed at the address, and budget for older plumbing, electrical and roof work. The investment page lists the multifamily properties for sale now, and the rental pages show live Lake Worth Beach rents.

Lake Worth Beach Real Estate FAQ
- How much does a home cost in Lake Worth Beach?
- It depends on the street and the type of home. The 55-plus condominiums west of I-95 and the older garden condos are the most attainable, cottages, townhomes and duplexes in the original town grid sit in the middle of the market, and College Park homes and houses on the lagoon carry the highest prices. The market table on this page shows the current median list and sold prices for single-family homes and condos, updated daily from the MLS.
- Is Lake Worth Beach the same as Lake Worth?
- The city of Lake Worth became Lake Worth Beach after a vote of its residents in 2019. Many homes west of the city, in suburban Palm Beach County, still carry a Lake Worth mailing address, and the MLS files them under a separate city name. This page covers the listings the MLS files under Lake Worth Beach; because even those include some addresses outside the city limits, check the municipality on the property tax record.
- What are the historic districts in Lake Worth Beach?
- The city's local historic districts are College Park, Northeast Lucerne, Old Lucerne, Old Town, South Palm Park and Southeast Lucerne, all in the older part of the city east of I-95. Exterior changes to a home in a district, such as new windows, additions or demolition, go through the city's historic preservation review, so we confirm a home's status and what it means for your plans before you offer.
- What should I check before buying an older home in Lake Worth Beach?
- Most homes east of I-95 date from the 1920s to the 1950s, so the inspection matters as much as the listing. Check the age of the roof, the electrical panel and wiring, the plumbing and the sewer line, which drive insurance as much as repairs. Confirm the flood zone, whether any addition or rear cottage was permitted, and whether the home sits in a historic district. For a condo, add the reserve study, the milestone inspection and the association rules.
- How close is Lake Worth Beach to the beach?
- The city's municipal beach is on the barrier island at the east end of the Lake Avenue bridge, so homes east of Dixie Highway are a bike ride or a short drive from the sand, the Casino building and the fishing pier, and homes west of I-95 are a few minutes farther. The city golf course and the Snook Islands boardwalk sit at the west end of the same bridge.
- What is my Lake Worth Beach home worth?
- Request a free valuation and we build it from recent closed sales on comparable streets, adjusted for lot size, a permitted guest cottage or extra units, historic character, lagoon views, roof age, impact windows and condition, rather than a citywide median. For a listing decision we prepare a full comparative market analysis, and homeowners who need a fast sale can request a guaranteed cash offer.
