Altos del Mar is the name on the plats of Surfside's northern residential streets, the blocks of Abbott, Byron, Carlyle, Dickens, Emerson, Froude, Garland, Hawthorne and Irving Avenues that run west from Harding Avenue toward Bay Drive, a short walk from Bal Harbour Shops and the 96th Street bridge to Bay Harbor Islands. The houses began as single-storey homes of the late 1940s and early 1950s on lots of roughly six to eight thousand square feet, and the street scene now mixes those originals, some fully remodelled, with new two-storey houses and double lots assembled for them. At the western ends, lots on Indian Creek and Biscayne Bay carry seawalls and docks. Fendi Château on Collins Avenue sits on the same plat, so its residences appear on this page too.
